My name is Benedikt Bergweiler and right now, I am studying computer science. The purpose of this page is to present you my written work I
had to enlabour in English at school some time ago.
Issue: 'An ailing patient — the decline of Detroit,
“Motor City” of the USA'
Here is a short introduction of how I was drawn
to the theme some years ago.
At that time, I was a (hopefully) soon-to-be high-school graduate from Germany,
attending the 13th year at school (comparable to the 12th
year in the American school system). Being 19 years old, I would be doing
my exams in May to June. One of the two advanced courses I voted
is English; to be permitted to the exams, everyone had to accomplish
a written work, normally ranging 15 to 30 pages (mine is a bit
longer). I had taken English as the school subject where I wanted
to do the essay and finally got the following topic by my teacher:
'An ailing patient — the decline
of Detroit, “Motor City” of the USA'.
I roughly worked 400 (+50 for the Internet affairs) hours on
it and hope having created a qualified but easy to follow essay.

Although it was a tough subject for me (above all the reading
of the socio-economic books), I really got captured by the development
of Detroit. In my early childhood, I have been to the USA several
times, visiting LA, NY and Chicago - not Detroit; but I perceive
Detroit as being much more special as it has its very own legacy,
both negative and positive. If I have the time and
money, I'll surely visit Detroit in my life.
